Escape room tours have been around for a while, David and Lisa of Room escape artist have done them through Boston, Los Angeles and they'll even be doing Montreal this year. There are a lot of escape room "hubs"; areas that have a lot of escape rooms in a small amount of space - and you'll find that once you start doing them regularly, you run out of local options (these things take a while to design and build!) So, once you start travelling to do other escape rooms you figure...why not play more than one since I made the trip? Eventually, you're doing all of the escape rooms that the company you're going to has to offer.
This can be difficult to plan, time consuming and expensive - but if you love escape rooms, it's so worth it.

There are a lot of online resources for escape rooms reviews, and we highly suggest starting off by checking out the "Top escape room project enthusiast choice awards" or TERPECA. This is a list of award winning escape rooms that people who have played more than 100 games get to vote for. Room Escape Artist is a team of enthusiasts that have been writing reviews and updates on the escape room, live action gaming and the industry as a whole for over 8 years. Morty is an app specifically for reviewing escape rooms and live action experiences, here you can find opinions from players that look for these sort of games.
Pull up these resources and you'll be able to get a good idea of what areas have games you'd be interested in playing.
Once you know where you're going and how many games you'd like to play - be realistic about how many you can do in a day (our group did 6, but this takes up the entire day and honestly it was quite exhausting. If I could turn back time I would've spent longer on the trip and done 3/4 rooms per day to allow for debriefing between experiences - imagine waking up and going to several plays all day! Kind of odd.) We were on our way to Quebec City and Montreal, these areas have about 20 TERPECA rooms and we booked 16 of them. (Quebec city and Montreal are also only about 3 hours from each other) We suggest booking less games than you think you can play, and deciding at the venue to play another if you're up to it. You should now have a good idea of how many days you'll need to stay in the area you're going to, and you can look into accommodations (which should be the first thing you book, you'll want to make sure you have a place to sleep!) We booked hotel rooms that were close to the escape room venues we were planning on going to so that we would have minimal driving time between solving a bunch of puzzles, and we planned the longest drive first to get it out of the way, additionally - we ended up adding on an extra day and played a couple of games at improbable escapes in Kingston. This helped the trip a lot because there was no longer a day that was just driving.
If you're up for stopping during your drive or making a lot of short drives rather than a couple of small ones, it's worth it to check if there are any experiences along the way to the main place you're going to. (For example, there are a couple of games in Sauce Qui Peut, just outside of Montreal that are worth stopping for on your way there or back if you make the time) Start looking into the companies you're interested in going to (follow them on social media, bring up their website and look at their open hours/schedule, even reaching out via email or direct message to let them know you're an enthusiast that is planning on coming between x days and with x amount of people can be beneficial for you, most owners are more than happy to help you plan which rooms you will play when, and some will even give you deals for playing multiple rooms in 1 day.) Book your rooms and get ready to go! (Always make sure you have a food break in between several rooms, or a planned time where your brain is relaxing, and make sure it's longer than you think it will need to be, since you'll likely chat longer than you expect during the experiences debriefs if you're anything like us.) Review all of your confirmation emails and load them into your calendar, make sure your dates and times are correct and reach out to the company immediately if they're not. During the trip, make sure to follow all of the instructions in your confirmation emails, some companies want you to come in 10-20 minutes earlier than the start time, some have games in the lobby for your group to enjoy if you would like to hang out there before or after, make sure you know about the venue before you all show up.
HAVE FUN and good luck escaping!
